Newsletter 4

Welcome to Improviso’s last newsletter of this year!

Our 2018 has involved all sorts of things including 38 concerts, workshops in the UK and France, 2 residencies at Snape Maltings and the Ambronay Cultural Centre, a broadcast on France TV channel Culturebox, and 8 flights with cello and theorbo to France, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Since our last newsletter we performed at St James’s Piccadilly for the first time, were in the semi-finals of the Van Wassaener competition in the Utrecht Early Music Festival, and presented several concerts in London. In September we flew to Lyon for the Festival d’Ambronay where we had a wonderful time presenting Jean-Fery Rebel’s Les Elemens as part of our programme ‘Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold’. It was a real treat to listen to all the other EEEmerging ensembles and we came away feeling truly inspired by the huge variety in repertories, approaches, and imaginative responses to music and practices - many thanks to the EEEmerging team for all the opportunities we’ve had this year, and to all our lovely friends and colleagues whom we’ve met through the scheme!

While we were in Ambronay we also got to film a short video for France TV’s Culturebox channel, which you can watch HERE on Culturebox or below on YouTube.

We’ve also been delighted to continue working as a Live Music Now ensemble, visiting several care homes, SEND schools, and hospitals this year. We look forward to 2019 with LMN and are very grateful for their help and support so far!

Improviso are currently in the middle of a 6-date UK Christmas tour and would love to see you at one of our upcoming concerts for music by Charpentier, J.S. Bach, and Dario Castello, alongside improvisations on some of our favourite Christmas songs.
